Com a subida da temperatura é importante relembrar que a exposição ao calor intenso pode causar alterações na saúde e bem estar dos bebés (um dos grupos mais vulneráveis às mudanças climatéricas).
A reação que cada criança desencadeia à subida da temperatura pode ser bastante diferente. Importa estarmos alerta para os sinais, a fim de agir atempadamente.
Os bebés e as crianças pequenas podem ficar mais ruborizados na face, transpirando ou não nas zonas de pregas (pescoço, axilas, virilhas) consoante a roupa que têm vestida seja em excesso ou adequada e o local onde se encontram esteja ou não climatizado.
Alguns ficam até com discretos edemas (“inchaços”) a nível das pálpebras ou extremidades dos membros (mãos e/ou dorso dos pés).
Em caso de maior exposição solar podem até sofrer um golpe de calor, com vómitos, febre e desmaio associado.
Muitos dormem por períodos maiores e tendem a não despertar para serem alimentados. Outros ficam de tal modo incomodados que não conseguem descansar e entram num ciclo de cansaço-sono-choro que parece não ter fim.
Para proteger a saúde do seu filho é fundamental estar informado e seguir as seguintes recomendações:
* Mantenha-o hidratado – ofereça água com muita frequência, mesmo que este beba pouco de cada vez e acorde-o para o alimentar se necessário;
* Se estiver em aleitamento materno exclusivo, hidrate-se muito bem (cerca de 2L de água por dia) e ofereça maminha várias vezes ao dia, com intervalos mais curtos que o habitual;
* Vigie se a língua do seu bebé se mantém húmida, com saliva;
* Verifique se o bebé está a urinar o suficiente (compare com o padrão habitual);
* Vista a criança com roupas frescas e de algodão (uma camada de roupa é suficiente nesta altura). Se o espaço estiver demasiado quente poderá deixá-lo permanecer só de fralda.
* Mantenha o bebé protegido do calor – atenção às viagens em veículos que estiveram ao sol e ao uso incorreto das fraldas de pano a tapar o “ovinho” de transporte;
* Não exponha a criança à luz solar direta no período das 10h às 17h;
* Mantenha a casa fresca, sem dirigir diretamente a fonte de frio para o bebé;
* Não o pegue demasiado ao colo pois o corpo humano também transmite calor. Opte por o deixar deitado ou sentado num tapete de atividades /berço sem almofadas ou proteções laterais;
* Na hora de dormir, um lençol fresco é o suficiente para cobrir o bebé;
* Alguma alteração no estado geral do seu filho, não hesite em solicitar ajudar.
